Local search for a multi-city Alberta trade means being findable in each city you really serve, with a page, proof and reviews that belong to that city. The core limit is simple: Google's map results lean on where your business actually is. So the plan pairs a strong map presence where you're based with strong organic pages everywhere else.
Who this is for
This service suits trades businesses with one real base, or two, and regular paid work in several other Alberta cities. Typical examples: a Calgary company working Airdrie, Chestermere and acreages in Rocky View County; an Edmonton company covering St. Albert, Sherwood Park and Leduc; or a Lethbridge firm that also takes jobs around Lethbridge County.
It's less useful if you work in one city only, or if you take jobs anywhere a phone rings without a clear travel limit. In that second case we usually start with call tracking by city so the limit becomes visible.
What's included
The work has four parts, and each one is listed in your proposal before you agree.
- Google Business Profile clean-up. Correct categories, accurate service areas, real hours and real photos. If you have more than one genuine location, each gets its own profile. We don't create profiles for places you don't operate from.
- City pages that earn their place. A page for each city you serve regularly, with jobs completed there, typical housing or building types, how quickly you can usually be on site, and the permits question answered with a link to the local authority. The guide to city pages without fake offices shows the structure.
- Reviews by market. A review request sent after each completed job, so reviews accumulate in every city you serve, not just at home.
- Citations and consistency. Your business name, phone and real address the same everywhere, with service areas described in words rather than fake addresses.
How we approach the big two and the rest
Calgary and Edmonton behave differently from the regional cities, so we plan them differently. In the two metros, competition for map spots is heavy, and neighbourhood or quadrant-level pages often work better than one big city page. A northeast Calgary page and a southwest Calgary page answer different searches.
In Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat or Grande Prairie, fewer firms compete for each search, so a well-built city page with ten real job examples can carry a lot of weight. If you're based in one of these cities, your map presence there is often the single most valuable asset you own.
Timeline
- Weeks 1–2: profile audit, service-area fix, tracking in place
- Weeks 3–6: first city pages published, review requests running
- Months 2–4: pages for the remaining cities, early ranking movement in smaller markets
- Month 6 onward: clearer signal in the larger markets, and decisions about where to add pages or ads
These are typical stages, not promises. Nobody can promise a ranking, and you should be wary of anyone who does.
How results are measured
Every month you get numbers for each city, not one province-wide total: calls and texts from organic and map results, booked jobs, and the search terms that brought them. If Medicine Hat pages bring calls but no booked jobs, that's a pricing or phone-handling question, and we'll say so rather than writing more pages. Our results page shows how this method performed in our HVAC work.
Mistakes to avoid
- Fifty thin city pages. Swapping the city name in the same text is a doorway pattern, and Google's spam policies treat it as one.
- Fake addresses. Virtual offices and borrowed addresses put the whole profile at risk.
- Using the Government of Alberta logo. Alberta's guidance on hiring a contractor says the province does not endorse specific contractors and doesn't recognise any affiliation from use of its logo, so keep it off your pages.
- Claiming every trade certificate in every city. State the certificates your people actually hold, and link to Alberta's compulsory certification trades list if you want to explain what they mean.

Frequently asked questions
Can I list a second address in another city to rank there?
Only if you genuinely operate from it, with staff and signage, under Google's rules. A virtual office or a friend's garage is the fastest way to lose a profile, so we won't set one up.
How many city pages should I have?
One for each city where you do regular work and can show real jobs. For most multi-city Alberta trades that's somewhere between three and ten, not fifty.
How long before a new city page brings calls?
Usually a few months for organic results, depending on competition. A page for a smaller city often moves faster than one aimed at Calgary or Edmonton.
Do reviews from one city help in another?
Reviews help your profile overall, but a review that mentions the customer's community, written in their own words, is more convincing to people in that community. We ask for honest reviews and never script them.
